The Stardig HCA Program prepares students to earn their Washington State Home Care Aide (HCA) license — one of the most in-demand caregiving credentials in the state. This program is perfect for individuals entering healthcare for the first time and is one of the most affordable paths to a rewarding career in care.

What sets our HCA program apart: Dementia Specialty Training and Mental Health Specialty Training are both included in the tuition — no extra cost, no separate enrollment. Both are required by WA State for HCA licensure.

Washington State requires Dementia and Mental Health specialty training for HCA licensure. Both are built into our program — no need to enroll or pay separately.

🧠 Dementia Specialty Training

8 Hours — WA State Required

Caregivers working with individuals living with dementia need a specialized, person-centered skill set. This 8-hour training gives you the knowledge and strategies to provide compassionate, safe dementia care.

  • Stages of dementia and how care needs change over time
  • Communication strategies for individuals with cognitive impairment
  • Behavioral and psychological symptoms — prevention and response

💚 Mental Health Specialty Training

8 Hours — WA State Required

This 8-hour course equips caregivers with the tools to support individuals living with mental health conditions, using trauma-informed, de-escalation-focused approaches.

  • Overview of common mental health diagnoses
  • Trauma-informed care principles and practices
  • Communication and de-escalation techniques
  • Recognizing and responding to behavioral health crises
  • Supporting mental wellness in residential settings
  • Ethics and boundaries in mental health caregiving

HCA Program Curriculum

The HCA curriculum covers all WA State requirements for Home Care Aide certification, plus our included specialty trainings.
